Winter in the Grand Cities offers plenty of opportunities to get outside and play in the snow. Just like summer recreation, though, it's essential to use good etiquette so everyone can enjoy this special time of the year.
Snowmobiling: The season officially begins December 1 in Grand Forks. Snowmobile route maps and ordinances can be found at http://bit.ly/2LecVgh.
Cross-country skiing: A classic track is groomed from Riverside Dam to 47th Avenue South. A flat track is groomed parallel to the ski track to accommodate walkers, fat tire cyclists, and snowshoes. A double classic ski track is groomed in Lincoln Drive Park. Trails are groomed twice a week, when snow conditions are favorable.
Sledding: Sledding down the backside (toward the river) is not recommended on the hill on Belmont Road. Water in the detention pond does not always freeze and could present a hazard.
NOTE: The trails are not cleared on weekends if the snow falls Friday – Sunday. The lower trails are not plowed to allow for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
